Shrigley Hall Hotel is in Pott Shrigley near Macclesfield, Cheshire — one of the leading wedding venues in the North West. The original De Shrigley family passed it down by marriage to the Downes family (300+ years of ownership). In 1818 it was sold to William Turner (MP for Blackburn) who built the present hall in 1825. Famous in history for the Ellen Turner abduction case of 1826.

I conducted Dorcas and Anton’s pre-wedding shoot ahead of the day. Their natural warmth and the vibrant red theme came through across the wedding gallery.

Bridal prep at Shrigley Hall

The day began with bridal prep at Shrigley Hall — the usual nervous excitement and a group of lovely bridesmaids. Shrigley Hall’s spacious room with a balcony was perfect for accommodating Dorcas, her five bridesmaids, the hairdresser, makeup artist and two mothers.

Ceremony at St Christopher’s Church, Pott Shrigley

I headed to St Christopher’s Church in Pott Shrigley to meet Anton and his groomsmen. This quaint, photogenic church is in a quiet village, just a two-minute drive from Shrigley Hall. The ceremony was lovely, followed by a lively confetti toss.

Arriving at Shrigley Hall, we took advantage of the spectacular Cheshire views and the iconic staircase for fun, natural images of the couple and their guests.

The wedding breakfast in the Tilden Suite was warm — the speeches brought both laughter and tears, with Dorcas giving a heartfelt speech of her own. A brilliant member of the Shrigley Hall team, Eamon, made the day run beautifully.

The Cheshire sunset

Just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, I noticed an incredible sunset outside — views stretching as far as Fiddler’s Ferry in Runcorn. I couldn’t pass it up.

The celebration continued with lively dancing and a packed dance floor in the Tilden Suite. After a few more memorable shots, it was time to leave Dorcas and Anton to enjoy the rest of their party.
