Photographing weddings at Capesthorne Hall
Country-house venues like Capesthorne Hall give a wedding photographer the contrast that makes images sing — high-ceilinged interiors with large windows for natural light during the day, and gardens or parkland for portraits and group shots when the weather plays along. I work documentary-style, blending into the background so guests forget the camera, and the staff at venues like this are typically well practised at running a day smoothly. If the weather turns, there’s almost always somewhere indoors that’s equally photogenic.
What I notice when I shoot here
It’s one of the most photogenic venues I shoot in Cheshire. The gardens give you almost endless options — the pagoda, walks down to the lake, the bridge across the water — all of which create stunning, naturally-lit photographs. The staff are unfailingly friendly and professional, which makes the whole day easier. And if the weather turns, the interiors are stunning in their own right — great light, lots of character, and rooms big enough to work in without crowding the guests.
