About Hyde Bank Farm as a wedding venue

Hyde Bank Farm is a rustic barn wedding venue set in the countryside between Cheshire and Derbyshire, near Romiley and Stockport in Greater Manchester. The buildings date back to 1655 and the farm has been in the Blackhurst family for over a century, which is part of why it feels so welcoming the moment you arrive. It offers the best of both worlds — a characterful stone barn with solid oak beams, a private bar and a dance floor, set in genuine countryside grounds that are open for couples to explore before they book.

Photographing weddings at Hyde Bank Farm

Barn venues like Hyde Bank Farm are some of my favourites for natural-light wedding photography. The light through the timber frames and across the surrounding fields gives a softer, warmer feel than you get inside a hotel function room. I shoot documentary-style — looking for the moments between the formal parts of the day: the quiet preparation, family arrivals, the first look between a couple — and at Hyde Bank Farm the outdoor grounds nearly always become the highlight of the portraits. I plan around the direction of the light so both the ceremony and the group photos are well exposed.

What I notice when I shoot here

The stone barn and oak beams photograph beautifully in low evening light, and the grounds give plenty of options for couple portraits without having to travel off-site. The team who run the venue are lovely and well practised at keeping a day flowing smoothly, which makes the documentary moments easy to capture. I’ve photographed many weddings here over the years and it remains one of the most photogenic barn settings in the area.
