Susie and Rick’s sunny outdoor wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn Farm near Congleton was a great day with a really fun couple. As a Cheshire wedding photographer working at Sandhole since 2006, this venue’s outdoor Clock Tower ceremony spot is one of my favourites in the county.

Sandhole Oak Barn Farm sits in 400 acres of Cheshire countryside near Congleton. Family-owned by the Worth family since the 1920s, the Oak Barn was added in 2005 — probably the first Cheshire farm wedding venue.

A familiar bride from 1998

One of the loveliest surprises was meeting Ruth again — the Mum of one of the little bridesmaids, best friend of Susie, and a bride I photographed in 1998. 21 years on. That’s the kind of long-arc story I get to be part of when I’ve been photographing weddings for over 25 years.

Bridal prep with Top Table Events

I arrived to a relaxed atmosphere and lots of Prosecco at Susie’s prep, where I met Annette and Fiona and the friendly Top Table Events team — they provide brilliant catering.

Outdoor Clock Tower ceremony in the sunshine

Susie and Rick had a sunny outdoor ceremony under the Sandhole Clock Tower — with two readings, sheep in the background of the ceremony images (which I’d never quite had before), and a properly Cheshire countryside backdrop.

Couple portraits and themed cakes

The country-lane walks, the lake and the fields gave us huge variety. Three themed wedding cakes and a table plan with a photo of the guests on a board were creative touches that I loved.

Speeches, DJ Tom Finkill and a tractor send-off

The very funny speeches, brilliant dancing with DJ Tom Finkill (one of my favourite wedding DJs), a daughter-and-father-of-bride dance, then a tractor and a bottle of bubbly to finish. Brilliant Cheshire wedding day.
