About Mere Court Hotel — a four-star country house wedding venue in Knutsford, Cheshire

Mere Court Hotel sits just outside Knutsford in the heart of Cheshire. Originally built in 1903 as a wedding present for William and Amy Dunkerley, it has been restored as a four-star deluxe country house hotel and AA Rosette restaurant — and voted the number one hotel in Knutsford on Tripadvisor.

It’s an exclusive wedding venue with a team that genuinely know weddings — they’ve recommended my photography for over 15 years. Past guests have included Bill Clinton, Ruby Wax, Dawn French, Alan Titchmarsh and Spandau Ballet, and the venue has featured in Cold Feet.

Pre-wedding shoot in Altrincham

Nica and David booked a pre-wedding shoot together in Altrincham before the big day — always a good idea for couples who want to feel comfortable in front of the camera. We also had a pre-meeting to talk through the day, the timing and the shots that mattered to them.

Bridal prep and the ceremony

The weather on the day was kind — warm, dry, sunny with patches of blue sky, which made the gardens at Mere Court Hotel look their best. Bridal prep was relaxed; the ceremony was beautiful and full of emotion — there were definitely happy tears.

Couple portraits in the Mere Court grounds

After the ceremony we headed out into the seven-acre grounds. The lake, the lawns and the mature trees give you a huge variety of natural backdrops for couple portraits without ever needing to leave the venue. The light through the afternoon was beautiful.

Wedding breakfast, speeches and the evening

The wedding breakfast in the Conservatory was elegant; the speeches were warm and funny. Into the evening, the first dance and the night photography around the building and on the gardens added the final layer to the day’s story.
