Liz and Dan’s wedding at Hyde Bank Farm in Romiley, Stockport was superb and great fun — mostly because Liz and Dan had such brilliant personalities and stayed so happy throughout the day. As a Stockport and Manchester wedding photographer, Hyde Bank Farm is one of my favourite local venues — historic, exclusive and packed with photographic character (not least that famous red tractor).

About Hyde Bank Farm — a Grade II listed barn wedding venue in Romiley, Stockport

Hyde Bank Farm is in Romiley, Stockport — a Grade II listed sandstone barn dating back to 1655 that was once home to Anne Hyde, who went on to marry James II, King of England. The Blackhurst family have owned the farm for over 100 years; today it’s a purpose-built, exclusive-use Cheshire / Stockport wedding venue with only one wedding per day.

Liz and Dan’s wedding day at Hyde Bank Farm

Bridal prep at Liz’s home in Stockport

I started my coverage with Liz and her three bridesmaids at her home in Stockport. Makeup was by Nimra, the atmosphere was calm and happy, and there was plenty to photograph — the dress, lilac bridesmaid dresses, rings, stationery, matching lilac robes, sandwiches and background music. A great setup for natural documentary photography.

Arrival at Hyde Bank Farm

After bridal prep I headed to Hyde Bank Farm — a venue I know intimately, run professionally by the Blackhurst family who’ve owned it for over 100 years. I caught up with Dan and his two best men, and then Liz arrived with her bridesmaids in an elegant wedding car. The dress, the bride, the whole arrival — beautiful.

The ceremony

The ceremony was led by Stockport registration service and felt heartfelt — meaningful vows, lots of smiles, plenty of laughs. That set the tone for the rest of the day.

Confetti and couple portraits

After the confetti — which Dan’s friends definitely went hard on — we headed out for couple portraits. The clouds looked a bit threatening but we got lucky with the weather all day. The Goyt Valley as a backdrop is part of what makes Hyde Bank Farm such a strong photography venue.

The famous red tractor and the evening reception

Of course — the famous Hyde Bank Farm red tractor made an appearance. It’s one of the most-photographed features of the venue and Liz and Dan made full use of it. Wedding breakfast, speeches and the evening dance floor wrapped up a brilliant Stockport wedding day.
