Katie and Nick’s Amazing Wedding Day At Heaton House Farm
Katie and Nick’s October wedding at Heaton House Farm was full of warmth, laughter and a fiercely contested round of indoor crazy golf. As a Cheshire wedding photographer who works regularly at Heaton House Farm, I had a brilliant time capturing this exclusive-use barn wedding venue near Macclesfield — from bridal prep at The Hen House through to sparklers in the courtyard.

About Heaton House Farm — a Cheshire wedding venue near Macclesfield
Heaton House Farm has been owned by the Heath family — Mick, Margaret and their daughter Sarah — for seven generations. They hosted their very first wedding in 1999, and 25 years on it remains family-owned and operated, with an extended team of friendly, helpful staff who genuinely make the wedding day flow.
The farm sits on the border of Cheshire and Staffordshire in Rushton Spencer, surrounded by picturesque, photogenic hills with stunning views across three counties. Manchester is the nearest city and Macclesfield the closest town — which makes Heaton House Farm a strong choice for couples searching for a Cheshire wedding venue with a properly rural feel.
Practical things worth knowing if you’re planning a wedding here:
- Purpose-built bridal prep room (The Hen House) and a dedicated ceremony room
- Outdoor ceremonies available in summer
- A separate room for the wedding breakfast and evening reception
- On-site accommodation across multiple rooms for the wedding party
- Exclusive-use venue — your wedding is the only one happening that day
- Extensive gardens and countryside views that are superb for wedding photography
Katie and Nick’s wedding day at Heaton House Farm
Bridal prep at The Hen House
Katie and Nick’s wedding day at Heaton House Farm started with bridal preparations at The Hen House. It was October — a dry day, but cold up in the hills. Having met Katie and Nick beforehand, I knew it was going to be a brilliant day to photograph, capturing everything naturally from prep through to past the first dance.
I was joined by my friend Dave from Rich Video Weddings — an experienced wedding videographer whose natural, beautifully edited films pair really well with my documentary photography approach.
The ceremony and confetti
The ceremony was lovely and heartfelt. I noticed real emotion from Nick at the top of the aisle as Katie walked up with her dad, dress and bouquet looking beautiful.
After the ceremony there was the confetti train and then a very sharp 30-second downpour. It started and stopped before I had time to worry — I don’t think I’ve ever had such a short shower in over 20 years of wedding photography.
Couple portraits in the Heaton House Farm gardens
We headed to the gardens at Heaton House Farm with help from Anya, the wedding coordinator, who kept everything running smoothly throughout the day. The gardens give you a huge variety of backdrops — formal lawns, dramatic Cheshire countryside views, intimate corners by the buildings — which is exactly what you want for natural, varied couple portraits.
Crazy golf with Putter Madness
After photos it was time for the real battle of the day — husband versus wife on the crazy golf course. Putter Madness brought in a nine-hole indoor course with a leader board, and I followed the Katie v Nick match all the way round. It’s one of those wedding entertainment ideas that genuinely keeps guests talking long after the day.
Wedding breakfast, speeches and the first dance
Anya then introduced the couple into the room for the wedding breakfast. The speeches were genuinely funny, the night photos came out beautifully, and the sparkler send-off looked stunning — Heaton House Farm at night with the lights on is something else.
Live music came from The Midnight Cats. The first dance got everyone up, the guitarist wandered onto the dance floor with the guests, and the atmosphere was outstanding.
Thank you Katie and Nick, and congratulations to you both — it was a brilliant Cheshire wedding day.
