Catherine and Peter’s wedding at Colshaw Hall in Over Peover, near Knutsford, was a beautiful family-led Cheshire wedding day with a striking autumn colour theme. About Colshaw Hall — an Irlam-family wedding venue in Over Peover, Cheshire

Colshaw Hall is set in Over Peover near Knutsford, in the heart of Cheshire. The hall was built in 1903 and originally owned by the Peel family; in 2001 the Irlam family purchased it and transformed it into one of the county’s most polished wedding venues.

I’ve worked at Colshaw Hall on many wedding occasions — knowing the format, the running order and where to be at every key moment helps the morning feel calm and the timeline run smoothly.

An autumn family wedding

Catherine and Peter brought their four sons and a daughter into the wedding party — the bridesmaids wore a beautiful shade of orange and the men wore matching orange ties, picking up the autumn theme throughout the day.

Bridal prep and the ceremony

The morning ran calmly — the bridal prep area with its elegant staircase makes a great frame for getting-ready images, while the lads were across in The Den for the boys with table tennis and a bar. The standalone civil ceremony hall, with its waterfall backdrop, is one of the most visually distinctive ceremony spaces in Cheshire.

Garden portraits across the Colshaw Hall estate

After the ceremony we worked through the gardens — the bridge over the lake, the romantic swing (which I always make full use of for couples), and the formal lawns at the front of the hall. The toastmaster provided by the venue kept the timeline moving so we never felt rushed.

Wedding breakfast and dancing

The dining hall sets up beautifully for the wedding breakfast — speeches were warm and funny, and the evening reception turned into a proper Cheshire wedding party.
