About Shrigley Hall Hotel — a Cheshire country house wedding venue near Macclesfield

Shrigley Hall Hotel is in Pott Shrigley near Macclesfield, Cheshire — one of the best venues in the North West for weddings and wedding photography. The Hall has a remarkable history: the original De Shrigley family passed it down by marriage to the Downes family, who held it for 300+ years. In 1818 it was sold to William Turner (MP for Blackburn) who built the present hall in 1825. The hall is also famous for the Ellen Turner abduction case of 1826 — one of the most outrageous cases of the era.

How we first met — Shrigley Hall wedding fair

Amanda and Jack first met me at a Shrigley Hall wedding fair after looking through the photo books I had on display. We booked in well in advance, which meant we could plan everything properly. We did a pre-wedding shoot at a beautiful location of their choosing — and brought their dog (who couldn’t be part of the wedding day itself).

Bridal prep with the girls

On the morning of the wedding, prep was relaxed and calm. Amanda’s little niece loved being in front of the camera — those candid kid moments always end up among the favourite images. I split my time between the bridal suite and the groom’s prep so Amanda and Jack both had proper getting-ready coverage.

The ceremony and that staircase

The ceremony at Shrigley Hall was beautiful — and that grand staircase at the entrance is a gift to photographers for portraits both before and after. We worked it for couple portraits, the wedding party and arrival photos.

Amanda and Jack had a clear list of photos they wanted, and we worked through them — plus a few extras I added from different points around the venue that they hadn’t thought of. The Shrigley Hall grounds and the surrounding Cheshire countryside give you brilliant variety.

The wedding breakfast and speeches in the suite were warm and funny; the evening dance floor brought everyone together. A genuinely brilliant Cheshire wedding from start to finish.
